Lord Mayor Brian BerminghamCouncilor Brian Bermingham was elected Lord Mayor of Cork at the Annual Meeting of Cork City Council on 23rd June, 2008.

Councillor Bermingham was first elected to Cork City Council in 1979 (originally representing the North West Ward, now representing the South West Ward) and has served for the past 29 years to date on Cork City Council.

The Lord Mayor previously held the post of Deputy Lord Mayor in 2000.

Lord Mayor Bermingham has been an Adult Education Officer since 1993 and is personally committed to community education and training.

In his speech to Council on his election, Lord Mayor Bermingham highlighted that one of his primary goals will be to create and cultivate a greater sense of collective identity among the citizens of Cork.
